It is also known as HuangQin, where "Huang" means yellow color, and "Qin" refers to a type of herb similar to reed.
This perennial plant is recognized by its upright purple flowers, resembling a Chinese medieval helmet, from which its name originates. Although it is tempting to pick its beautiful flowers, the useful part of Baikal Skullcap is its richly branched root. HuangQin not only thrives in China, but it can also be found in eastern Siberia, Mongolia, North Korea, and Japan, where it grows on desert soils and sunny grassy slopes at altitudes of up to 2000 m.
