Reishi, or lingzhi in Chinese, is a type of woody mushroom scientifically known as Ganoderma lucidum. It originates from the humid regions of Asia and is recognizable by its distinctive glossy cap in shades of red, brown, or even black wood.
The mushroom is edible, making it a popular ingredient in culinary applications in China and Japan. It has also long been valued in folk herbal traditions, where it is used to produce extracts, tinctures, and other beneficial preparations.
Reishi has been used in nutrition for over 2000 years and was once so valuable that it was reserved exclusively for nobility.
